How do we understand and reduce vibration travelling through the ground?

Our partnership with Simone dos Santos and LAMEC combines research with the formation of new researchers. Students who began their work at UFPI have brought their experience to SSI Lab, developed new computational methods and continued into graduate research in Brazil and abroad. Together, we investigate how soil, foundations and vibration barriers respond as an interacting system.

Waves, walls and trenches

We study how surface structures and buried features change ground motion, helping engineers assess ways to protect vibration-sensitive structures.

Models for open ground

We develop and apply finite-element, boundary-element and absorbing-layer models to represent waves travelling beyond a finite computational domain.

Soil–structure interaction

Our common interests include structural vibration, offshore structures and the influence of soil properties on dynamic response.

A connection carried by students.

These researchers began their scientific paths at LAMEC and went on to work with us at SSI Lab.

Ana Vasconcelos

Methods, mentoring and scientific exchange.

We also collaborate through teaching and scientific meetings, including a short course on creating animations to explain engineering results at LAMEC’s first computational simulation symposium in 2019.
